Our Mission and Impact

Mission Statement

The Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. It was created in 1995 shortly after the opening of the Dr. James C. Salato Wildlife Education Center. Through charitable donations by individuals and corporate sponsors, the Foundation works with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources to support the efforts of the Salato Wildlife Education Center, conservation education programs for Kentucky youth, and the acquisition of land and wetlands for wildlife habitat. To this end, the Foundation and its Board of Directors actively seek the sponsorship of major corporations.

Conservation Camps - Updates

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation is financially involved in three conservation camps in the State of Kentucky, Camp Robert C. Webb on Grayson Lake, Camp Earl Wallace on Lake Cumberland and Camp John Currie on Kentucky Lake.   We are working hard to improve more facilities and to provide scholarship opportunities to fourth, fifth and sixth graders in need of financial assistance.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation has provided Camp Currie (Benton, KY) with: water fountains, a new canteen, updated the educational nature building, and provided $250,000 donation for the NEW dining hall.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation has provided Camp Wallace (Monticello, KY) with: water fountains, a completely new swimming dock, updated the educational nature building, and a brand-new archery range.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation has provided Camp Webb (Grayson, KY) with: water fountains, a new canteen, and a brand-new bath house.

Salato Wildlife Education Center - Updates

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation has worked to provide updates to the Salato Wildlife Education Center each year.  We have fundraised for new exhibits in Salato including: the entrance exhibit, the Bear Aware exhibit, the Living Stream, the Bluegrass Prairie, the Frogs and Toads of Kentucky exhibit, and more.

We also work in conjunction with Toyota to provide funding for items needed for the annual Toyota volunteer day.  With the help of volunteers, we have planted trees, painted, fixed fences, and assisted the Salato staff in maintaining the educational facility.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation provides support for other KDFWR organized events as well as other non-governmental conservation groups that introduce people to the outdoors.  For example; Mentor Hunts, Wounded Warriors Hunts, Annie Oakley Day, Green Wing – youth hunting, Field to Fork classes, Becoming an Outdoors Woman and many others.
